How UK homeowners actually search for a carpenter
Search behaviour for carpentry splits into three distinct groups, and each one needs a different page on your site. Repair searches ("door frame repair", "sash window repair near me") are urgent, price-sensitive and convert within hours. Fitted-product searches ("fitted wardrobes Norwich", "bespoke kitchen maker") involve a two to eight week research cycle and multiple quotes. Trade and specification searches ("staircase manufacturer", "structural timber carpenter") come from builders and architects and carry the highest lifetime value.
Most carpenter websites have a single Services page trying to serve all three. Google has no strong reason to rank one page for fifteen unrelated intents, so it ranks none of them well. The fix is not more content – it is the right number of pages, each mapped to one intent, each with its own title, its own photos and its own quote path.
- Repair intent: fast-loading page, phone number above the fold, typical price range stated
- Fitted-product intent: gallery, process, lead times, finance or staged payment info
- Trade intent: capabilities, certifications, insurance level, CAD or shop-drawing capability
